Rocketts Landing Cedar Works resident Mark Anderson is no stranger to staying active.
As an international sales manager for an industrial supplies cutting tool company based in Long Island, N.Y., Mark flies at least 100 times a year. So, when he was ready to move about five years ago, being close to an airport -- while not sacrificing his active lifestyle -- was essential.
"When I was looking to move, I was thinking of New York City or Florida," explains Mark, who has lived in Richmond for nearly two decades, "but then I saw [Rocketts Landing] and I said, nope. I'm staying here."
His first attraction was our community's 10-minute drive to the airport. Then, he saw our Cedar Works building and loved the exposed brick and renovated warehouse feel. Next, he realized the lifestyle he could enjoy at Rocketts Landing — and Mark was immediately hooked.
“I run six to seven miles every day,” says Mark. “I mainly use the community’s gym facilities, but we also have access to run the Canal Walk and go down to Brown’s Island, and run the trails downtown. Once the Virginia Capital Trail is complete, I will enjoy running on that. And the [riverfront] pool here is also very nice, which is actually where I’ve met most of the people I run with.”
Another feature Mark enjoys is our community and the area’s walkability. From walking over to the 17th Street Farmer’s Market for Shockoe Bottom’s variety of festivals to stopping by Gillies Creek Park for disc golf or having dinner at one of our community’s restaurants, the convenient location fits his life perfectly.
But the cherry on top?
“I also like that the [residents] I know are from every different age group, from 25 to 70 years old,” explains Mark. “Other places, you might have the same age group. But here, everyone is different and likes knowing each other. I see myself staying here for a while.”
