The time has arrived, friends! Our 2013 event season is officially kicking off this weekend with our 5th Annual Rocketts Landing Collegiate Regatta. Hosted by Commonwealth Crew, Rowing at VCU, the Collegiate Regatta is a great athletic event showcasing the region's top rowing talent along the James River.
This Saturday, March 30, collegiate rowing teams from across Virginia will make their way to Rocketts Landing for a jam-packed day of competitive rowing. Spectators will watch crew teams from Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Richmond, Virginia Tech, George Mason University, William and Mary, James Madison University, Christopher Newport University and Old Dominion University. The day's early heats will showcase novice rowers while the afternoon will feature the varsity teams.
On land, fans and rowers alike will get to enjoy a cookout provided by the parents of rowers in Commonwealth Crew. There will also be various informational booths set up featuring local athletic training teams and marathon groups.
“We’re trying to build on the Richmond athletic community,” explains Commonwealth Crew’s Volunteer Coach Yuriy Levtsky. “We’re hoping to bring more awareness of our sports and merge the two worlds.”
If you’ve not yet checked out the Rocketts Landing Collegiate Regatta, be sure to stop by this Saturday! Richmond has some stellar rowing talent — a tradition on the James River that dates back as far as the mid 1800s. So, enjoy a taste of rowing history this weekend! We look forward to seeing you there.
