At Rocketts Landing, we're eagerly awaiting completion of the Virginia Capital Trail, which is slated for 2014. Once finished, the trail will wind its way through our community and connect Richmond to Williamsburg on a paved pedestrian walking and biking path. To keep trail users and supporters in the loop during construction, the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation has organized a social event at The Boathouse -- and all are invited to attend!
The event takes place this Wednesday, September 14, and will offer guests light hors d'oeuvres and beverages to enjoy while mingling with Foundation members, volunteers and supporters. They've also invited two keynote speakers to attend and speak on pedestrian and cycling topics for the Greater Richmond Region and the state of Virginia: Jake Helmboldt, the City of Richmond’s new Bike and Pedestrian Coordinator; and John Bolecek, Bicycle and Pedestrian Planner for the Commonwealth.
You’ll also hear details on the next steps of construction, including an approximately 10-mile portion in their New Market Heights Phase, a nine-mile portion in their Varina Phase and the remaining 0.75-mile portion for Downtown Richmond (this is what will eventually run through Rocketts Landing!).
So, if you’re a supporter of the Virginia Capital Trail — or are even just looking to learn more about the future of a cycling-friendly Richmond — be sure to stop by The Boathouse at Rocketts Landing this Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you there!
