Last Labor Day weekend, we welcomed an estimated 3,000 people down to our riverfront community for the inaugural RVA Wake N' Sun Fest!
On both land and water, the RVA Wake N' Sun Fest brought everyone together for some rocking athleticism and carefree fun. From water jetpacks to half pipes to a Water Pong tournament and beyond, a plethora of activities and demonstrations invited people to spectate and participate throughout the day.
Event-goers also enjoyed a variety of live music from local and national acts, such as The Polychrons, The Handsmiths, and McGill Lee Jackson. An abundance of food selections from RVA food trucks kept people full and happy, rounding out the scene for some very Richmond action. Even some late-day storms that briefly blew through Rocketts Landing couldn’t dampen the good times.
“The landscape of Rocketts Landing next to The Boathouse is truly captivating,” explains Jimmy Budd, event co-organizer. “You have the ability to enjoy your walks along the river, chill out on the lawn, dance the night away or take off your shoes and enjoy the sand on the volleyball courts. My goal [with the Wake N’ Sun Fest] was to enhance that [experience].”
With the RVA Wake N’ Sun Fest, we believe Jimmy succeeded. We were pleased to serve as the location host for one of Richmond’s newest outdoor festivals along the James River and help Richmonders celebrate the end of summer in style!
