M Bistro & Wine Bar at Rocketts Landing might focus their dining experience around wine, but their upcoming dinner event steps outside their namesake and into a growing Virginia trend: craft beer.
By definition, "craft beer" refers to small breweries outside the mainstream production -- often offering experimental flavors -- that tend to focus on quality, rather than quantity. In the past few years, Richmond and Virginia-at-large have seen a growing number of craft breweries popping up and offering beer lovers a tasty alternative to their typical grocery story options. On Richmond's southside, Legend Brewery is our city's oldest craft brewer still around, but new brewers, such as Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (operating in Scott’s Addition), continue opening across town and the state.
And on October 19, much to our pleasure, M Bistro’s first Virginia Craft Beer Dinner will feature these up-and-coming Virginia breweries by perfectly pairing their beers with a five-course gourmet meal.
“We are featuring Virginia Craft Beers to help launch the growth and birth of several new Virginia breweries,” says Chris Simons, M Bistro & Wine Bar’s general manager. “Richmond has a large and savvy population of craft beer drinkers that are excited and supportive toward quality Virginia beers.”
The menu thoughtfully combines quality dishes with a tasty beer, featuring such pairings as Frogmore Stew with Wolf Hill “Wolf Den Double IPA” (Addington, Va.), Pork Tenderloin with O’Connor Brewing “Great Dismal IPA” (Norfolk, Va.) and Italian Rum Cake with Hardywood Park “Farmhouse Pumpkin” (Richmond, Va., and this one’s made with local pumpkins!).
You do need reservations to attend the Virginia Craft Beer Dinner, so be sure to save your spot at the table. Based on M Bistro’s consistently full house, we have a feeling these seats won’t be around for long!
